The Bobby Jones Trophy - Cooroy Golf Club

Once again we returned to the Cooroy Golf Club for the Bobby Jones Trophy . This year it was a two day event held over the weekend of 22 and 23 May 2021.

A field of 15 players competed with some solid scores returned. The weather was kind and the hospitality exceptional. A lift, clean and place rule was in place.

Local Grathan Leatherbarrow prevailed with a very commendable score of 152 over his very much younger rival George Giblett with 153. The (hickory) course record was set with 73 by both Grathan Leatherbarrow and Chris Cooper. Last year's net champion Greg Mellifont followed up with a strong first day, leading the net (on countback). Local knowledge was clearly an advantage. In the end, local, Kaleb Hamilton nudged Greg out to win best net with 81 Stableford points.

Notably, the nearest the pin was dominated this weekend by Robert King-Scott with a very near hole-in-one on the 7th (day one). Robert followed form on day two to eventual take out four of the five tournament pins. Everyone had their chances on hole 15 though, with the hole prevailing until day two with Bradley Tatnell finally landing to within a yard.

The competition was played on hickory handicaps and we thank Alan Grieve our handicapper for his updating efforts. Thanks must also go to Grathan Leatherbarrow for his organisation. And finally, thanks to the staff at the Cooroy Golf Club for  presenting the  course in such a fine condition and for being so welcoming.
