Monthly Event - 5 May 2023
Today’s event was a single Stableford event played with one’s choice of any five clubs.
On arrival at the course one could only be impressed by the scene of many Golfers dressed in Hickory style practicing putting on the RQ practice green.
It was a beautiful day and the course was, as always, in great condition.
20 players joined the nine hole competition.
Great scores were recorded with Alan Grieve the winner with an excellent 20 points.
Second was Peter Monks with Chris Cooper a close third.
A rare highlight was your author’s holing out his bunker shot on the fourth for a rare four points!
As expected the post game gathering was well attended and included our Patron Charlie Earp.
It’s great to have your company Charles.
President Rob announced that he would be guest speaker at the RQ Ladies Day later this month where he will be sharing the joy of Hickory and encouraging the ladies’ participation in future events.
Again thanks to Ross Bishop for the setting out the course.
The opportunity to play Hickory at RQ is much appreciated by all.
Bobby Jones was the greatest Golfer of Hickory history.
Famed sports writer Grantland Rice wrote in 1971 ‘whatever any future giant of the links does to par, no one will ever replace Bobby Jones in the hearts of those to whom golf means more than a game’.😂
