Some more of Hickory golfing history
Following the 1930s era of Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen, the 1950s saw Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson rise to dominate the game as professional golfers They were matched to play against the world’s best recognised amateur golfers Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi at Cyprus Point Golf Club.
The story of the match is told in the book ‘The Match’ by Mark Frost who also wrote ‘The Greatest Game Ever Played’.
I must read for lovers of the golfing game.
Finally we have all heard the saying contributed to Ben Hogan ‘As you walk down the fairways of life you must always stop to smell the roses for you only get to play ‘one round’. His own life exemplified this.
