Queensland Championship - 9 and 10 July 2023
Day 1
A beautiful day and 20 players in splendid attire gathered on the putting green at the Brisbane Golf Club for the official photo.
A hearty breakfast in the heritage listed Clubhouse stood them in good stead and the Golfing Gods smiled down ready to assist when called on.
The day saw excellent scores, incredible stories and the odd ball lost along the way.
Credit must be given to the Brisbane Golf Club for the presentation of the course. What a change from our visit 12 months ago - improved greens, bunkers and landscaping.
The day concluded with a gathering by the ProShop for refreshments and results.
So it’s off to Royal Queensland for day two and the final round of the Queensland Hickory Championships.
Day 2
Another beautiful day and again 20 players assembled for the 1pm Shot Gun start and enjoyment and appreciation of the wonderful Royal Queensland course.
Late afternoon saw the players assemble for the traditional dinner and announcement of the results.
Our thanks to Ross Bishop for the course setup and both Phil and Rob for the efficient organisation of the event.
Many highlights made for exciting golf for most players.
Special mention must be made of Kevin Tuckwell's amazing putting skills with only 20 putts for 18 holes on his way to 36 STB points.
Well done Kevin who declared my putter ‘Benny’ his new best friend.
Also congratulations to our champion Ilija Soldan for his wonderful play - a well deserved win.
And…. We again appreciated our Patron Charlie and his wife Margaret joining us for dinner.
President Rob welcomed the players from New Zealand, Toowoomba and Conroy and thanked them for coming.
The New Zealand players were placed second and third in the Championship.
Trophies were presented to all winners and photos taken to record the evening.
As expected in true Royal Queensland tradition, an excellent dinner followed.
Congratulations to all associated for a great two days of Hickory Golf.
