Queensland Foursomes Championship - 2 June 2023
A strong field of 20 players gathered on the putting Green for the official photo many dressed splendidly in period style. Most players had spent some time on the practice range and putting green and there was a real buzz in the air as teams gathered on the first tee for final instructions. The weather was perfect for golf and as usual RQ was in excellent condition.
There were some excellent pairings and some a couple of short priced favourites.
Some side bets were observed and good value at 10 to 1 were the Akes brothers .
Not all bets were in cash and I did hear of a side bet of a bottle of wine.
More about that later .
The standard of golf was very high with most teams recording excellent results. Many wonderful shots were achieved by many players but special mention must be made of the outstanding shot made by Ross Bishop on the 5th par 4. Out of position to the right of the green by partner Chris by about 40mts he holed out for a birdie 3.
Truly a great shot.
At the presentation dinner many stories abounded about good luck and of course bad luck with the winners of the day being the 2022 Champions Bradley Tatnell and Ilija Solden. The best net went to Kaleb Hamilton and Jason Norris. Congratulations to all winners...
Special thanks also to Grattan Leatherbarrow and the Cooroy boys for their attending .
Also thanks to Ross Bishop for the excellent way he set the course for today’s event .
The dinner and camaraderie was enjoyed by all and some more than others as bets were settled with some fine bottles of wine.
Ps
Bobby Jones once said:
The real way to enjoy playing golf is to take pleasure not in the score, but in the execution of strokes .
He certainly was in a class by himself and perhaps the greatest of all golfers .
