Friday 8th
The trip to Toowoomba was supported by only nine players. On Friday we were treated to excellent course conditions with a huge storm circling around but not a drop of rain.
Al Grieve picked up the winners wine with 18pts while Di Charlton and Michael Akes each having 16 points.
On Saturday afternoon 7 competed in the Saturday afternoon comp. Toowoomba Golf Club Captain Jim Miller made a point of welcoming HGQ members to the club and we were provided with a great dinning experience on the deck that evening.
Although we all played with regular clubs on Saturday it must be noted that Michael Akes picked up the A grade trophy with fine score of 39 points. Michael's score confirming that 9 holes on hickory on Friday does wonders for your normal game.
Did you know?
We have in past reports talked about the Augusta Golf Course and its designers Bobby Jones and Alistair McKenzie. Of the many tributes to them the following is worthy of repeating:
‘Bobby Jones left us an enduring legacy. He is as intertwined with the clay soil of Augusta as the giant roots of the great oak trees.
His spirit lives in the towering pines and there is a palpable sense of him in every corner of the place each spring when his dream comes back to life during Masters Week.’ (Quote from Larry Dorman)
Thanks Bobby
