To my cherished friend ‘King’ Arthur,
Born in the same year as the US Masters of your beloved hero Bobby Jones. Congratulations on reaching the noble age of 90.
The first of our esteemed octogenarians to qualify for the ‘big league’. You are now the country’s premier nonagenarian hickory golfer.
Wishing you a wonderful day with friends, golfing colleagues and family. May you score your age every year until you become a centurion.
Beyond that point you’ll need to beat your age. Nobody wants to score more than 100.

20 players teed off in the inaugural Arthur O'Shea golf day. The day kicked off with morning tea and cutting of the birthday cake.
Golf was a 4 ball best ball stableford event over 18 holes. The weather was perfect and the course presented in immaculate condition. The playing conditions and great camaraderie produced some very good scoring.
The very popular paring of Peter Egan and Ross Haslam won the cup with an exceptional score of 56 stableford points! The team scored 30 points on the front nine before easing off with only 26 points coming in. Peter scored two 5 point holes! Witness to the round and playing partner, Neville Sandford said he had never seen a team of golfer pair so well.
The event was so popular HGQ is planning to add "THE ARHUR" as a regular event on the hickory calendar.

‘The golf day I’ll never forget’
It was 19 May at the Royal Queensland Golf Club and without my knowledge David Jones, Philip Akes and Robert King-Scott organised a surprise golf day in my honour.
I was invited to arrive at the club at 11am where 20 of my Hickory Golfing Mates had gathered to celebrate my 90th Birthday with morning tea for all.

The event was for the Nonagenarian Cup, a four ball event won by Peter Egan and Ross Haslam with the excellent score of 56 points.
Presentation of wine with special labelling was well received and designed by Bruce Collins.
The winners will also receive a Trophy Cup in recognition of their wonderful score.
Presentation of trophies was followed by an excellent meal and refreshments.
Thank you Hickory Group members for honouring me with a golf day I’ll never forget.
